Update: growing stupider

Andrew has recovered from the wisdom teeth being pulled. Actually, he wasn't even too bad of a "baby" about it. I know he is recovered because he is now eating full meals. Well, either that or he is just so hungry that he is eating despite the pain. Two days of a mainly liquid diet will do that to you.

Hot Summer Days

The weather has been really hot here for the past week and it looks like it will stay that way for awhile yet. Beka and Jared are really enjoying the sprinkler. My fearless son runs straight at the sprinkler and gets totally drenched. Beka is a little more cautious. When the water gets on her face, she runs screaming away from it. They try to get Mommy involved but I think the water coming out of the hose is way too cold for me to be running through. Plus, there is no way anyone is going to see me running around my yard in a swimsuit. NO WAY! I also bought the kids water guns. Yeah I know bad mommy but they are cheap and lots of fun to play with. The picture of Jared has to be one of my favorites that I have taken of him so far this summer.

Beka the bug hunter and Jared my drummer boy

Beka has become totally enthralled with roly-poly bugs.  Whenever we are outside, she wants to go bug catching.  I used try to make her wait for Daddy to get home.  Now though she goes off by herself and catches bugs.  The most she has caught at one time is 8.  She has great eyes for finding these bugs. Beka will sit under a tree in our yard and dig under the rocks to find them.  She is very persistent and proud when she finds them.  I can't wait until later this summer when I introduce her to fireflies!

Jared is a percussionist all the way.  I always said I would never let my child have a drum.  Well, I used the word "never" and I have learned since not to say that about anything.  Before Christmas (that is when Jared received his drum from Grandma), Jared would beat on this one pan.  He drummed on it so much that i was losing my mind from the "tinny" sound it made and the pan was losing all of the enamel on the outside.  Now, I thought Jared would eventually lose interest in the drum, but I was wrong.  It is now 6 months after Christmas and the drum still is played at least once a day.  I guess I just better accept the fact that I have a drummer in the house.

Tidbits of the Day

Yesterday, I took the kids to Borders bookstore for story time. Beka had a really good time. They did a craft project (making a puppet) and then they read three stories. She sat nicely during the reading time. Every time the reader asked a question, though, she was the first to pipe up. Jared tried to have a good time. He wanted Mommy to read the books. So we sat in a corner and read some books and then he played peek-a-boo with a baby that was there.

Today, we were getting ready to run a few errands when the kids started acting out "Sound Of Music". Okay they didn't act out the whole thing. Beka started it. The scene was the one where Captain Von Trapp is introducing the children to Maria the first time. The kids step forward, say their name, and step back again. Okay so picture this. Beka steps forward, says "Louisa", and steps back. Jared without missing a beat, steps forward, says "Friedrich", steps back. I know it is out of order but it was still adorable.

Heritage Days

A couple of weekends ago Andrew and I took the kids to Heritage Days. It is a carnival held at a church here in town. It is kind of like K of C BBQ, but on a much smaller scale. The kids rode a couple of the rides. They got to play "duck pond" and each won a bag of fruit snacks. Beka and Jared also had their first taste of funnelcake and lemon shake-up. It was a fun way to spend a Friday evening.

(As you can see I am still playing with the settings on here. I am also slowly learning html so as I learn more I will add more details.)

Father's Day

Happy Father's Day

Andrew is a wonderful father to our children. I feel very blessed because of all the time he takes with them. Even when he has had a long day at work, he still will make sure he makes time to connect with them. I just wanted to take time to thank him for all he does for us.

By the way, we got Andrew a hedge trimmer and a hard drive for Father's Day. The trimmer is already a great success. The bushes around our house have never looked so good.

Safari Boy

I don't know what it is about this outfit, but Jared has to wear it all the time.  Anytime, he sees it in his closet he carries it around until I put it on him.  And it is not just the shirt or just the overalls.  The outfit is not complete without the hat.  I just don't get it!

Tumbling Class

Last Saturday my 3 year-old daughter started a tumbling class through the local park district. Apparently, she loved it. I say apparently because I wasn't there. Her Daddy is taking her every week so that they can have official daddy-daughter time and so that I get some time alone with our 2 year-old son.

When she came home, she showed me everything she had learned. I learned all about frop jumps, bear walks, and even a snake crawl. The cutest thing had to be her trying to do a sit-up. I thought I was bad at doing them. At least I don't put my elbow down to help me get up but hey if she can get away with it I just might try it.

The First Post

Well, here goes. I am starting this blog as a place to talk about my family. To remind myself that my children are growing everyday and I need to remember the small achievements that they are making now.
